In order to support ZUGFeRD PDF Metadata in Gnuaccounting 0.8.5 we just intiated the Mustang-project

For the upcoming release of the free accounting application Gnuaccounting 0.8.5,
usegroup implemented the ZUGFeRD standard for the first time in a permissive open source license.

ZUGFeRD is an open standard based on other open standards like PDF and XML.
Nevertheless, so far there were few libraries with complete write support:
commercial ones, not suitable for use in open source software and
Konik, open source but de facto not allowed for commercial use because
it is published under a so called restrictive open source licence.

The “Mustang project” open source Java ZUGFeRD-library is based on
the Apache PDFBox-library and uses the same, liberal, Apache Public License 2.0.

This allows the use of the “Mustang project” library in both commercial and
open source software.

With the upcoming release of ZUGFeRD 1.0, the “Mustang project” will check
if it can be merged e.g. with Konik or with Apache PDFBox.

Additional details are available on the project page on http://www.mustangproject.org/

About ZUGFeRD:

ZUGFeRD-compliant PDF invoices include machine readable metadata of the contents of the invoice,
which would otherwise have to be manually read and typed, like total amount and payment recipient.

Further information about ZUGFeRD is available on http://www.ferd-net.de/front_content.php?idcat=231&lang=3.

About Konik:

Konik is a open source library for ZUGFeRD compliant invoicing.
The author, Vadim Bauer, released the current revision 0.2.0 under
the Affero General Public License (AGPL) 3.0.

Further information on Konik is available on http://konik.io/

About Apache PDFBox:

Apache PDFBox is a generic Java PDF library, allowing the creation, manipulation and extraction
of PDF documents. Currently version 1.8.5 is licensed under the Apache License 2.0.

Further information on Apache PDFBox is available on http://pdfbox.apache.org/
